Chapter 3: A Startling Encounter

Still carrying the weight of his past as he ventured forward, Hyeon Woo found himself nearing a dimly lit alleyway, a shortcut he often took on his way home. The shadows danced around him, mirroring the turmoil within his heart. Each step felt heavier than the last, as if an invisible force sought to hold him back.

Lost in his thoughts, Hyeon Woo failed to notice a figure emerging from the shadows, lurking quietly behind him. Suddenly, a hand reached out and tapped him on the shoulder, sending a shockwave of fear coursing through his veins. Startled, Hyeon Woo turned around, his eyes wide with terror.

For a brief moment, time stood still as his gaze met the mischievous grin of Ji Hoon, his best friend. Relief washed over Hyeon Woo like a wave crashing upon the shore, realizing that the person who had startled him was none other than the person he trusted most. His racing heartbeat gradually steadied as a nervous chuckle escaped his lips.

"Ji Hoon, you scared me half to death!" Hyeon Woo exclaimed, a mixture of relief and annoyance in his voice. "What are you doing sneaking up on me like that?"

Ji Hoon's grin widened, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Ah, come on, Woo. Just trying to keep you on your toes. You looked so lost in thought, I couldn't resist." He playfully nudged Hyeon Woo's shoulder, the tension between them dissipating with each passing second.

Though initially startled, Hyeon Woo couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for his friend's unexpected presence. In that moment, he realized the power of genuine friendship, the comfort and security it provided in times of uncertainty. It was as if Ji Hoon had appeared as a guiding light, reminding Hyeon Woo that he was not alone on this journey of self-discovery.

As they walked side by side, Hyeon Woo opened up about his recent struggles, the rift between him and Hyeon Mi, and the haunting memories of his past. Ji Hoon listened attentively, his unwavering support a balm for Hyeon Woo's troubled soul. With each word spoken, the weight on his heart lightened, and a newfound sense of hope began to blossom within him.

"Thanks, Ji Hoon," Hyeon Woo whispered, his voice filled with gratitude. "You always know how to bring me back from the depths of my worries. I'm truly lucky to have you as my friend."

Ji Hoon flashed a warm smile, his eyes reflecting the depth of their bond. "The feeling's mutual, Woo. We've weathered storms together, and we'll conquer these challenges too. You can count on me."

With those words, the friends continued their walk, the weight of their burdens momentarily lifted. In that moment, Hyeon Woo understood that true friendship was a source of strength, a beacon of light that would guide him through the darkest of times.
